I caught a glimpse of The Modern Urbanism Exhibit at 531 Bowery. The show features art by TMNK - The Me NOBODY Knows. TMNK’s paintings are powerful works in the style of what many people (including the artist) refer to as “street art”. His aesthetics are reminiscent of Basquiat and each work is beautifully composed of text and imagery that reflects various social realities of today.
Political and bold, TMNK uses everything from cardboard, salvaged furniture parts, skateboards, and the gallery wall, to more traditional mediums such as canvas and wood panels.
There are some great surprises at the show…I will keep them that way, so that you can enjoy them, when you visit the gallery - 531 Bowery New York, NY 10003
The show is up through the end of February 2011. If I am a good girl, maybe I can nab an interview with the artist, before it come down.
Don’t be left in the dark on this one. Check it out!
